Somewhere I've Never Travelled (1976)

Ambrosia's second album was fully produced by Alan Parsons, and most fans (and the band itself, from what I understand) consider it their best. I guess I hold a minority opinion then, because somehow I don't quite like it as much as their first. Don't get me wrong, it's unquestionably a great album; there's still the rich diversity of sounds, the wonderful harmonies in the vocals, and the lyrics worth listening to. But the songs just seem a bit less inventive to me than those on the first album. The last song, especially, doesn't live up to the standards set by the rest of the material.

There is a truly great orchestral instrumental finale to "Danse with me George"; some powerful music in "I Wanna Know"; and some melodic beauty in "Runnin' Away" and the title track.

As far as I know (but please correct me if you have knowledge to the contrary), none of the songs from this album received any substantial radio play.

An interesting side note: On the original lp version, the album jacket could be folded out to form a pyramid. I quote from the inner sleeve: "This pyramid album cover, when assembled, has been designed in accordance with The Great Pyramid. Use as desired." Hey, it was the 70's, what can I say?
